Professor Receives 2008 Lincoln Prize Book Award

Georgetown University Assistant Professor of History Chandra Manning has received a 2008 Lincoln Prize Honorable Mention and a $10,000 prize for her book What this Cruel War Was Over: Soldiers, Slavery, and the Civil War (Alfred A. Knopf, 2007).
"Dr. Manning’s book highlights a previously unexamined area of study, and provides insight into how those fighting the Civil War viewed the root causes of the conflict," said Dean of Georgetown College Jane McAuliffe. "Georgetown congratulates Dr. Manning on this well-deserved honor."
