Nikki Shure (SFS '08) and Kevin Boyd (SFS '08) recently received Deutscher Akademischer Austausch Dienst (DAAD) Fellowships from the German Academic Exchange Service. Additionally, Nikki received a Fulbright Fellowship to study at Freie Universitaet in Berlin. She recently returned from studying abroad in Munich at the Ludwig-Maximilians-Universitat, where she studied Econometrics and Game Theory in German for two semesters. Both Nikki and Kevin's success is partly attributed to their enrollment in upper-division courses and faculty advising from the College's Department of German.

| Georgetown University has been designated as an NSA National Center of Academic Excellence in Information Assurance Education (CAEIAE) for academic years 2008-2013. The CAEIAE, sponsored by the National Security Agency and the Department of Homeland Security, is an outreach program with the goal of reducing vulnerability in the national information infrastructure by promoting higher education in information assurance (IA), and producing a growing number of professionals with IA expertise in various disciplines. |

The Department of Arabic and Islamic Studies will host a discussion on "What should be the place of Shari'a-Islamic religious law-in predominantly Muslim societies of the world?" featuring Professor Abdullahi Ahmed An-Na'im from Emory University's Law School. The proposed question of the lecture is addressed in his new book Islam and the Secular State: Negotiating the Future of Shari'a. Professor An-Na'im is an internationally recognized expert on Islamic law and human rights, and he will discuss his new book with Georgetown University's Professor Felicitas Opwis, an authority on Islamic legal theory. Under the direction of Timothy Nelson, AOT will complete its 2007-2008 season performing Charpentier's remarkable 1688 opera masterpiece of the French baroque. The Department of Art, Music, and Theatre presents The Class of 2008 Senior Studio Art Majors' Group Exhibition featuring the senior projects of nine studio art majors in the Georgetown College: Harrison Beacher, Sarah Boxx, Emily Bushman, Robert Compoy, Claire Hankin, Nadia Khan, Emma McGill, Anna Strickland, and Bridget Werther. The diverse mediums explored by this group of seniors range from traditional drawing, painting, and photography, to alternative processes and digital photographic prints. The works will be on display in Gallery 101 at 1221 36th Street NW. Access to the gallery is through the lobby of the Walsh Building. The gallery is free and open to the public Tuesday through Thursday from 12:00 to 6:00 p.m. and Friday through Saturday from 12:00 to 5:00 p.m. The gallery will open by appointment after May 2. |
