New Students Welcomed to Georgetown Community

After reciting the student pledge and donning the black robes that one day may serve as their graduation gowns, 1,750 new students became part of the Georgetown community on Aug. 24 during the 2008 New Student Orientation (NSO) Convocation ceremony.
Each year, the university holds the NSO Convocation in McDonough Gymnasium as a tradition that introduces new Hoyas to the university and launches their higher education careers. This year’s participants -- the class of 2012, plus 170 transfer students -- followed in their predecessors’ footsteps by walking into the gymnasium with academic robes draped over their arms. By the end of the ceremony, they were donning the robes to show their official acceptance into Georgetown life.
