Athletes Tackle Leadership Skills In New Academy

Recognizing that captains aren't the only ones who can provide guidance to their teams, Georgetown's new Leadership Academy looks to make stronger leaders out of its student-athletes while they're on campus and long after they have left the Hilltop.

About 109 student-athletes -- from the 23 varsity teams -- are in the second semester of the Leadership Academy, a voluntary noncredit seminar that provides them with lifelong leadership skills.

"These students work hard to excel athletically and academically, and the academy offers them new perspectives on themselves, their potential and the vital role they play in our campus community," says Todd Olson, vice president of student affairs. "Building ethical and reflective leaders is very much in keeping with Georgetown's Catholic and Jesuit mission."
