Four Year Plan

Sketch out a strategy to meet your academic goals

Perhaps you are a declared science or language major who wonders whether you can fit in a second major or minor. Perhaps an undeclared student wrestling with a choice of major. Or, maybe you have questions about study abroad, internships, the gen ed requirements, your AP scores, etc.

The College Dean's Office in ICC 303 is the primary academic advising center for all first and second year students. While those of you who entered the College with declared majors in a language, linguistics, science, or mathematics have been assigned faculty advisers in the department of your major, those of you who are "undeclared" will be assigned major specific faculty advisors in the sophomore year. We in the Dean's Office are your overall advisers and wish to begin the process of discussing your academic interests and questions.

In that spirit, we would like to invite all College first-years to come by the Dean's Office in ICC 303 to sketch out a "four-year plan," a preliminary plan of your course choices over the next four years, taking into account your potential major(s), minor(s), certificate(s), AP credit, and general education requirements. The four-year plan is in no way binding; it is simply an opportunity for you to touch base with the Dean's Office about your academic goals. Most students are pleasantly surprised to discover how much flexibility the Georgetown College curriculum allows.

To sign up for a four-year plan, please stop by ICC 303 and ask our receptionist for the four-year plan schedule book.

Notes:

  • Appointments will last approximately 1/2 hour.

  • Due to preregistration (November 5-17), we will not hold 4-year plan meetings after November 9th. If you do not schedule a 4-year plan before November 9th, you will have the opportunity to do so after Thanksgiving or during the spring semester.

  • If you miss your scheduled appointment, you will not be able to reschedule until after Thanksgiving.

  • After you have scheduled a meeting, you should log onto Student Access+ to view your transcript, degree audit, and "what-if" degree audit, tools which you will use throughout your four years at Georgetown. We also encourage you to visit the Academic Programs section of this web site, where you can view the requirements of all the majors and minors in the College. Our advising sessions are more productive if you have reviewed this information before our meetings.
