Study abroad pre-registration for Fall 2008
Pre-registration for Georgetown College students is Wednesday, April 2 through 9 a.m. EDT on Thursday, April 10, 2008
Although there is no scheduling advantage to registering early in the allowed time period, we strongly suggest you do so anyway to avoid possible delays caused by the breakdown of computers or international communications.
Requests received after registration results are produced will not receive the same scheduling priority as those received by the deadline. Nevertheless, if you have to send it in late, go ahead and do so. Some courses at preregistration are better than none.
Instructions for online preregistration
Go to StudentAccess+ to view your personal data information, transcript and degree audit. Report any errors. In most cases, the transcript and degree audit do not reflect any of your overseas courses, so in planning for senior year you should take anticipated overseas credit into consideration.
If you do not have access to your NetID and password, fax a request to the Georgetown University Registrar (202-687-3608) to have your password re-set. In your fax, include your name, GoCard number, email or mailing address, signature, and a brief statement requesting a new password. Please indicate on your fax that you are studying abroad.
If StudentAccess+ indicates that you have a registration block, contact the appropriate office to clear the block as soon as possible. Please let us know that you are aware of the block and when you anticipate it being cleared.

For "permission only" courses that require faculty approval, you may ask a friend to contact the professor on your behalf, obtain the professor's approval on the appropriate form (also available in the Dean's or Registrar's office), and return the form to the College Dean's Office. We do not object to your contacting faculty by email and their forwarding approval by email to the College Dean's office, but it may be difficult to accomplish this on time.
Follow all preregistration instructions as outlined on the web.
You do not need faculty adviser approval if you are preregistering from overseas, but we encourage you to contact your faculty adviser for input concerning your course selection, especially in your major. Many faculty advisers will send emails to all of their advisees, requesting a meeting or correspondence concerning preregistration. If you receive such a message, please respond that you are overseas and let your adviser know which requirements you anticipate to transfer from overseas.
List alternates where possible, and especially if you are hoping to enter a "permission only" course. Although you will have access to Completion via the web, it will be more convenient for you to get a full schedule the first time around. One of the academic staff in the Dean's office will review your preregistration request and will email you if questions arise.
Please check your Georgetown email account at least once a day after you submit your request, in case we have questions or need you to make changes to your schedule before the deadline.
Instructions for Buddy (proxy) System preregistration
A friend on campus may serve as a proxy for preregistration. The proxy will have access to preregistration and completion, on your behalf. This method is the best option for students who will request classes which require professor approval. Either complete the preregistration form in your OIP workbook or write the information on a piece of paper and return it to us in the College Dean's Office immediately, thereby giving you permission for preregistration by proxy (send a copy of this form to your proxy, as well). Print clearly using dark ink. You may fax or email the information. Be sure to include: Your name, GoCard number, proxy's name and school, your signature, first-choice and alternate classes, or general instructions for course selection.
Be careful not to list classes with conflicting time schedules. Even a 5 minute overlap in schedules will bump you out of at least one of the classes.
Instructions for Mail/Fax Preregistration
This method should be used by students who are at sites without web access, or who do not have an on-campus friend to serve as proxy. Either complete the preregistration form in the OIP workbook or write the information on a piece of paper and return it to us in the College Dean's Office. Print clearly using dark ink. You may fax or email the information. Be sure to include: your name, GoCard ID number, course names, department names, course numbers, and course sections alternates, where possible.
Be careful not to list classes with conflicting time schedules. Even a 5 minute overlap in schedules will bump you out of at least one of the classes. Please do not hesitate to contact us with any questions. Fall classes begin on Wednesday, August 27, 2008. Please note Monday classes will meet on Wednesday, August 27.
Thank you, and enjoy the remainder of your overseas study experience.
Sincerely,
Bernard J. Cook, Assistant Dean
Ali Whitmer, Assistant Dean
Keshia B. Woods, Academic Counselor
