Dean's Award for Excellence in Teaching
The Georgetown College Dean's Award for Excellence in Teaching, presented to its first recipients in 1996, is designed to honor excellence in the teaching of undergraduates. Up to three awards are made in any given year and they are announced at the time of the fall College Faculty convocation. The recipients receive a citation, an engraved gold-plated medal and a cash award. All College faculty who teach undergraduate courses are eligible, including full-time and part-time faculty. Each College department and program can submit the name of one nominee per year.
The teaching awards committee reviews the nominees' applications and forwards a slate of finalists to the Dean, who selects the award receipients. The selection committee consists of five faculty members and includes a representative from the major discipline groups: languages, humanities, sciences and the social sciences.
