Meet the Senior Bakers

Yamiche Alcindor is an English and Government double major and an African American Studies minor. Yamiche spent this past summer in Gaborone, Botswana where she also studied abroad last spring semester. While in Botswana, Yamiche worked for the largest independent newspaper in Botswana, Mmegi. There she interned in the news department editing stories and doing some freelance work for the paper. While there she also interned for Face the Nation, an HIV/AIDS awareness and prevention program. As a program volunteer, she taught students in both their junior and senior year of high school, ways to change their behavior to lessen the spread of diseases. Yamiche also worked with a local community poetry group, Exodus Live, by performing in some of the group's events.  Yamiche also enjoys writing and performing poetry at benefit concerts.She is currently the Residence Director of the Black House, a participant of Girl Talk, a young women's mentoring program, and a  tutor and mentor for the DC Reads program. She is also a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., the Patrick Healy Fellows and GU Sisters for Christ. After graduation, Yamiche plans to attend graduate school and pursue a career as an international human rights advocate and writer.


Patrick Dahlen is an English major. He is also part of the club soccer team. In the past, Patrick has worked for Morgan Stanley, the Archer Daniel Midlands Corporation (ADM), Senator Fitzgerald  and Representative Costello, both of Illinois.  In July 2007, Patrick traveled to Australia to begin his study abroad for the fall semester.  He is exploring his career options in a variety of fields.  Finance, entertainment, sports, music, and law are all fields that interest him. He enjoys traveling and hopes to get a job that will take him around the world.  At some point, Patrick would like to live overseas.




James Grant is double majoring in American Studies and Political Economy. His work experience includes interning for Warner Brothers Studios, Donors Choose, Killefer-Flammang Architects, and the White House Executive Office Building. On campus, he presides as President of the Georgetown Rugby Club, Associate Member of the Lecture Fund, Orientation Advisor for New Student Orientation, and Co-Chair for Marketing and Recruitment for the Baker Scholars. Additionally, he represented Georgetown University last spring in the 2008 Jeopardy!  College Championship on ABC. James has written two novels, and is hard at work beginning a historic screenplay that will serve as his American Studies Thesis next spring. After graduating, he plans to attend law school, where he will focus on legal issues regarding the entertainment industry, a lifelong passion.



Shemeko "Amy" Hang is a Government major and Justice and Peace Studies minor.  This past summer she served as the Interim Campaign Manager and Lead Hmong Field Organizer for Pakou Hang for Saint Paul City Council and interned with Health Partners, Inc.  While interning at Centro Legal Inc. two summers prior, Amy worked as an Immigration Law Legal Assistant and oversaw the advocacy department.  In 2006 she founded and currently chairs the Georgetown Scholarship Program's Student Leadership Committee, is an English as a second language tutor through the DC Schools Project and serves as an Associate on the Lecture Fund.  She is a published freelance reporter and for one year, hosted a public television show.  At Georgetown she is a Patrick Healy Fellow and a recipient of the Hmong National Development's Youth Leadership Award.  Amy is exploring her interest in consulting, public relations, law, journalism, marketing, advertising and media.  


Sean McNamara  will serve as co-chair of the Baker Scholars program during the 2008-2009 school year while pursuing a major in American Studies. His past work experience includes internships at the Trust for Public Land and the Urban Land Institute, as well as a summer spent whitewater raft guiding in western Montana. A former USA rugby player, Sean now plays on the varsity side of the Georgetown Rugby Team and, while at Georgetown, has also served as a Commissioner on the Student Activities Commission, an ambassador for the StreetBank microfinance initiative, and an associate member of the Lecture Fund.  Off campus, he is an active supporter of California based non-profits Freedom From Hunger and the Center for Land Based Learning.  In 2005 Sean was awarded a Congressional Award gold medal for exemplary public service to these same organizations. After Sean completed his spring semester abroad in Madrid, Spain, he spent the summer working at Spain's oldest real estate company, Metrovacesa, where he gained experience in both real estate development and asset management. After graduation Sean plans to pursue his interests in sustainable urban development and ultimately hopes to apply himself to poverty alleviation in urban slums.


Natasha Midgley is one of the co-chairs of the Baker Scholars program.  She is a Psychology major and Studio Art minor.  This past summer she was a Management Intern for the Hillstone Restaurant Group at the Houston's in Santa Monica where she learned the ins and outs of the restaurant business from service management to kitchen operations.  She spent Fall 2007 abroad  studying culture, history, and psychology at the University of Cape Town in South Africa.  Natasha was apart of the Corp for three years, delivering movies for MovieMayhem.Org and serving as Movie Mayhem's Director in Spring 2007.  Not only does she dance as a member of Groove Theory, but also choreographs for the team as a member of Senior Management.  She is also very involved in New Student Orientation at Georgetown, having previously served as a Orientation Leader she will take on the role of training the Orientation Leaders for NSO 2008.  Natasha previously interned at the Governor of Connecticut's Office as well as Hammer Creative, an entertainment advertising agency.   Natasha is exploring her future career options and holds an interest in hospitality, hotel management, restaurant management, entrepreneurship, media/communications, and advertising/marketing.



Kenneth Wong Kenneth Wong is double majoring in German and Finance and minoring in History.  He is a member of the Varsity Tennis Team, Editor-in Chief of Mentis Vita, senior representative of the College Academic Council, a John Carroll Scholar, Industrials Head of the Georgetown Student Investment Fund, and research assistant for Professor Painter on "Oil and World Power", Georgetown's Research Program (GUROP).   This semester, Ken is a peer advisor for incoming freshman as well as a member of the 2007-2008 Judicial Hearing Board.  This past summer, for five weeks, he worked in Trier, Germany, assisting the mentally challenged and interning at a vineyard.  Ken then moved to Shanghai to work with an environmental protection group and helped other college students implement water purity and solar power station projects.  This summer he is interning at Morgan Stanley in New York in the Investment Banking Division.
