Class of 2010
Wynne Dillon serves as co-chair of the Baker Scholars Program while pursuing a double major in economics and Spanish and a minor in Government. Wynne recently spent six months in Madrid, Spain, where she studied economics at the Universidad Comillas and worked as an English tutor and au pair in the summer. While she extensively explored the diverse regions and cultures within Spain, Wynne also traveled to several countries around Europe, keeping a detailed blog of her time abroad. At Georgetown, Wynne has been an Orientation Advisor for New Student Orientation for three years and also serves as a member of both the Gathering Student Ministry and the Tocqueville Student Forum. Singing and songwriting are two of Wynne's strongest passions and in 2006, she released a six-song album of personal compositions in the folk-rock genre. In 2008, Wynne interned in the Promotions Department at Capitol Records in New York City and continues to write songs and improve her guitar and keyboard skills. Wynne’s professional interests include entrepreneurship and marketing and she is especially attracted to the business side of the music industry.
William Handke is pursuing an American Studies major and a minor in Theology. On campus, he is heavily engaged with The Corp, where he was hired in the fall of his freshman year. There, he has served as the General Manager of Corp Student Storage, Director of Information Technology, Vittles cashier and MUG bagel master. With the Baker Scholars, Will has led the development of The Baker Web - an online networking tool for program members - and was instrumental in helping to refine and release a handbook for recently paroled prison inmates written by activist Eddie Ellis, Jr. Over the past summer, he interned at iMapData, Inc. in Mclean, VA - a consulting, mapping, and data-management firm. In the future, he hopes to pursue a career where he can make a lasting positive - and profitable - change to the world - perhaps by starting a business of his own.
Thomas Hsu-Yao is a Chemistry major and Mathematics minor. This past summer, he completed his fuel cell nanoparticle chemistry research that culminated in a national American Chemical Society presentation and was an Office of Residence Life Activities Assistant for high school students. At Georgetown, Thomas is a John Carroll Scholar (CFI), an Arnold O. Beckman Scholar, President of the Chemistry Club, and an undergraduate research assistant in the chemistry department. This year, he is a Resident Assistant in an upperclassmen hall and will serve as a mentor in many of his activities. After balancing his diverse interests throughout his time at Georgetown, Thomas now hopes to apply his science background to the fields of consulting and law.
Katie Jones is an American Studies major with a double minor in Spanish and Environmental Studies. She has interned for the past year and half at Hungry Machine, a young and growing social network application development company based in Washington, DC. Last summer, she studied abroad at the University of Pompeu Fabra in Barcelona, Spain. Previously, she worked as a marketing intern at a Bethesda restaurant, and as a tennis instructor for multiple summers. On campus, she is the Vice President and co-founder of Hoyas Global Initiative, a community service and charity fundraising organization. She has also been involved in GU Club Tennis, Relay for Life, EcoAction, Hoyas for Charity, Grab-n-Give, intramural basketball, and The Hoya. Her professional interests include consulting, green energy / sustainable development, and law. In her spare time she enjoys cooking, traveling, playing guitar, listening to music, and painting.
Bradford "Chip" Malt is double majoring in Economics and Computer Science. He is also an infielder for the Varsity Baseball Team and amassed the second highest batting average on the team in 2009, hitting .339. In January 2007, Chip co-founded "Collegiate Coders," a web design firm that services small businesses, non-profits, and student organizations. This past summer, Chip interned at Barclays Capital as a Global Capital Markets Intern and accepted a full time job on the US Rates Sales desk for 2010. Outside of school, Chip is pursuing a Private Pilots Certificate to fly small single engine airplanes. In his spare time, he likes to play sports, travel, and lift weights.
Meredith McGrath is an English major who participated in the Liberal Arts Seminar her freshman year. Earlier in her college experience, she worked for two summers in the marketing and accounting departments at Hinshaw & Culbertson LLP, a Chicago law firm. This past summer, she interned at the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, supporting the
efforts of the National Chamber Foundation, the Chamber's nonprofit think-tank affiliate. At Georgetown, she has worked as a Marketer in the Georgetown Office of Advancement. Her love of Georgetown has led her to be very active on campus. Meredith was a New Student Orientation Advisor as a Sophomore and has served as a Captain her Junior and Senior year. She is board member of the Georgetown Admissions Ambassador Program (GAAP), serving as the board's Vice-President for her Junior and Senior year. Meredith was also a two-year Board Member of the Student Activities Commission (SAC), reporting directly to the Vice-President of Student Affairs. Last summer, Meredith participated in the Georgetown Villa Le Balze Reading and Writing Program near Florence, Italy, where she pursued her passions - literature, travel, and meeting interesting people! Meredith hopes to attend law school in the future.
Andrew Molchan is a Physics major and Classical Studies minor. Although he has always enjoyed studying math and science, he has a passion for the Classics as well, especially Latin. During the Spring 2009 Semester he studied abroad at the Villa Le Balze in Florence, Italy. Last summer, Andrew worked at The PFM Group, a public financial management firm in Philadelphia. On campus, Andrew is involved in the Georgetown Entrepreneurial Organization, the Society of Physics Students and is a Teaching Assistant in the Physics Department. He is also actively involved in research as a result of his experiences as a John Carroll Fellow. During his Junior year, he worked on a project to use nanoparticles to increase the resolution of MRI scans so that they can better detect cancer cells. His current research project for his senior thesis focuses on developing a new type of cancer therapy that selectively heats cells to kill tumors. After graduation, he hopes to apply his technical back- ground outside of the sciences, working as an actuary or in finance before going back to school to obtain a graduate degree in applied math or study intellectual property law.
Natalie Murchison will graduate in spring 2010 with a degree in American Studies. During her undergraduate career, Natalie has pursued filmmaking and writing. These past two summers, Natalie has had the opportunity to learn about nonfiction film production, by working on a PBS miniseries, Appalachia, with independent documentarian Ross Spears, and by interning for National Geographic Television Specials. With various Georgetown University departments, Natalie has enjoyed co-creating 3 short documentary films. While studying in Prague, Czech Republic during the spring semester of 2009, Natalie published articles about religion in the Czech Republic on Georgetown’s Berkeley Center website for Junior Year Abroad Network. Additionally at Georgetown, she has participated in Center for Social Justice programs FOCI, GU HERE Hurricane Relief trip, and literacy tutoring for DC Reads, as well as worked as a barista and shift manager at the Corp’s Uncommon Grounds. Her after-graduation goal is to be a writer for a publication.
Charlie Nutting is an economics major with a double minor in sociology and studio art. He spent last summer (2009) in New York City working for the advertising agency Saatchi & Saatchi, where he was in the account management department for several youth brands. On campus, he is a Marketing Representative and Collections Officer for the Georgetown Alumni and Student Federal Credit Union, Last fall, Charlie studied abroad in Sydney, Australia, where he jumped out of a plane, swam with Great Whites, and other very normal, run-of-the-mill activities. He holds a strong interest in photography, and has designed a website, www.charlienutting.com, to showcase his work.
George Roche is a Biology major from Cold Spring Harbor, NY. This year George is a co-chair of the Baker program with Wynne. Outside of working with the Bakers, George is an active member of the student senate and an appointed member of the Student Safety Advisory Board. Over the summer George interned in the Corporate Strategy division of Time Warner Inc. in New York City, working on various projects including the strategy presentation for the Board of Directors. In the fall of 2008 George studied abroad at Georgetown’s Villa le Balze in Fiesole, Italy overlooking Florence. Upon graduation George hopes to find a job combining science and business.
Sarah Zlotnick is working towards an American Studies degree at Georgetown. Last spring, she studied communication and design at the Danish Institute for Study Abroad in Copenhagen, Denmark. On campus, Sarah has served as the Director of Marketing for The Corp's Hoya Snaxa, designed and constructed costumes for the Mask & Bauble Spring 2008 Musical "Cabaret", and gives tours with Blue & Gray. Summer and Fall 2009 finds her in the Web Department of Washingtonian Magazine, where she serves as the online intern and authors entries for the Style Blog. After graduation, she hopes to pursue a career in fashion journalism, online media, costuming, or publishing.
