The George F. Baker Scholars Program
The George F. Baker Scholars Program was founded in 1973 to cultivate business leaders who are intellectually inspired and socially conscious. The program seeks exceptional sophomores in Georgetown College who have demonstrated a strong academic record, dedication to service, and an active interest in business.
The Baker Scholars Program offers a unique opportunity for Georgetown College students to experience the world of business firsthand. Dynamic in nature, the program enables Scholars to develop and lead initiatives such as: retreats and educational business trips, in-depth discussions with industry leaders, and focused group projects. Community service is also an integral part of the Baker experience as Baker Scholars exemplify the Jesuit ideal of men and women for others.
Bakers are motivated and talented in different ways and represent a diversity of background and life experiences. Scholars are expected to make meaningful contributions to the program, to Georgetown, and to their communities. The Baker alumni, over 300 strong, actively participate in the program, serving as Trustees, mentors, career counselors, advisors, and friends to current Scholars and to one another. To become a Baker is to be a Baker for life.
Applying to Become a Baker Scholar
The Baker Scholars Program looks for students who have a demonstrated interest in business, a strong academic record, and a dedication to community service. Business coursework is not required, nor is formal business experience. Bakers Scholars are required to be on campus and part of the program for a minimum of three semesters. Therefore, students who plan to spend the entirety of their junior year abroad are ineligible.
The selection process is highly competitive. Accepted applicants should expect several rounds of interviews, the first conducted by current Scholars, and the second conducted by the Board of Trustees and Assistant Dean Stefan Zimmers, the program’s administrator. The interview process is meant to reveal both the personal character and the professional potential of the applicants. Significant preparation time is encouraged.
If you have questions about the application process, please contact program coordinator Candace Mosely at email@example.com or 202-687-4744.
