Creating Locally, Connecting Globally

April 22, 2013—The Georgetown Environment Initiative brings together leading researchers, academics, students, and university partners to help people better understand and interact with complex environmental issues. The initiative recently awarded a grant to Associate Professor of Family Medicine Caroline Wellbery for a pilot program, entitled “Creating Locally, Connecting Globally,” that uses art to explain the threats to human health posed by global climate change.
In addition to writing a paper on their findings, three teams of students from the College, the School of Nursing & Health Studies, the School of Foreign Service, and the Medical School worked together to create sculptures illustrating their data. By pairing scientific fact and artistic expression, Professor Wellbery and her students hope to connect on multiple levels with their audience.
