Emma Berk (C’20) has focused on being a person for others since her first year at Georgetown. Her work with four different service projects led her to receive the university’s prestigious Landegger Award, an honor given to students who have made outstanding contributions to community service. She hopes one day to become a psychologist in a correctional facility.

Department Highlight – Mathematics & Statistics Professor Kimberly Sellers Creates Varied Research Opportunities for Students
If the movie Hidden Figures taught us anything, it is that there are often forces in the background working to make anything possible. Though the study of math and statistics is fundamental, research in these disciplines is not as widely recognized as the other natural sciences like biology, chemistry, or physics. But without it, we would never have been able to send someone to the moon and back. Department of Mathematics and Statistics professor Kimberly Sellers is working to highlight the power of math and statistics for the next generation of researchers, helping Georgetown undergraduates realize that the sky is no longer the limit.

Deconstructing Walls —German Department Celebrates the 30th Anniversary of the Fall of the Berlin Wall
Department of German Professors Astrid Weigert and Anja Banchoff are hosting a week-long event series to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall that will kick off on Monday, November 4. Students and faculty will jointly participate in several events that speak to the history of the Berlin Wall, its demolition, and the significance of walls, both mental and physical, that exist in society today.

Multitalented Senior Who Studies the Holocaust Hopes to Pursue International Law
Paul Rochford (C’20) has traveled to Eastern Europe to help identify previously unknown mass graves during the Holocaust under a Georgetown professor’s guidance, Rev. Patrick DeBois, the inaugural holder of the Braman Endowed Professorship of the Practice of the Forensic Study of the Holocaust. Rochford works part time at the Campus Ministry office, enjoys playing two woodwind instruments, directs music for Georgetown plays and is a triatholaner.
